Darker days

Even though we had a bit of indian summer going on while my parent visited, the weather is going down hill fast now.
It's dark, rainy, cold and grey. And dark. Did i mention that it's very dark?
I still have a ton of gardening i need to do before it gets too cold for that sort of thing, but finding a day that's dry enough for gardening is proving difficult.
These pictures weren't even taken that long ago, but all the flowers in the top picture have pretty much died now.
And the pumpkin and zucchini, although full of pretty blossoms, just never happened.
My rescue cactus now lives in our bedroom, and is even bigger and greener than seen here.
He's a lucky one, all my other cacti live in one of the darkest rooms in the house!

I'm having one of those days where i fully realize what we're in for; how awful and long winter is going to be.
All of a sudden i remember going to flea markets every weekend for hours finding stuff for the house, coming home with frozen ice blocks for feet, and putting those blocks up on a barely working heater to thaw them.
I remember having to carry Lucifer around cause the ground was too cold for him to walk on.
And i remember how the snow hung around forever, and spring just refused to happen when it was supposed to.
There's nothing to be done, of course, except maybe upgrade to a higher dose of vitamin D and hope for the best.
At least i love being at the house, and even though we're almost done with the renovations, there's always something that needs to be done around here.
And if i should ever run out of stuff to fix or build, however unlikely, i suppose i could always try to learn German...

Yesterday was our 11 month anniversary at the house, by the way.
I can't believe it's been almost a year.
One of the best of my life, for sure.
