Almost done packing, feeling slightly less crappy.
Tomorrow i'm going back to the place i love the most.

We're going straight to Osaka on the shinkansen when we land, so i don't think i'll be posting until we're back home in Tokyo.
No, don't cry. It'll be ok. Really, stay strong 11 readers (that's right, i have 11 now!)
See you soon.

This looks hilarious!
(You know, in a bad way).

The family album part two

This one is my favorite out of all of the photos.
It's three of my four grandparents, but i suspect that my grandfather is the photographer, so it's all of them together in a way.

I just want to mention that the English language are missing some words.
Or i don't know them?

In danish maternal grandparents are:
Mormor and Morfar
And paternal grandparents are:
Farmor and Farfar.
Makes sense?

So in the photo you see (from left to right): my farfar, my mormor and my farmor with the white hair.
I didn't get to know my farfar, he died when i was a year old.
But i do have a photo of us together that i love.
The other two were great ladies, i miss them both a lot.

Just so my morfar don't feel too left out, here's a photo of him too:

I wish i had the photo albums from my parents too, there are so many great and funny photos, that needs to be scanned.
That's a project for another day.

After a sort of serious post, there needs to be a stupid one.
Those are the rules.
Watch this about three or four times, once is just not enough.

The family album part one

Today i went to see my grandfather.
While i was there i found two adorable little photo albums.
I borrowed them, so that i could scan the photos.
All photos are pre-me, they go up to about 1976 i think, but i know most people in them.

Looking at photos like these make me so happy, but in the saddest way.
It almost feels like i'm looking at strangers' photos, like the ones you find an antique shop of people who are long gone.
And you buy them just for the frame.
Time goes by so fast.

This first one is of my aunt, she's the one on the left.
She died of cancer when i was about 10.
I remember her being sweet, not using enough salt when cooking, but mostly i remember how losing their sister and daughter hurt my mom and grandfather.
The day she died, a day i remember very well, my cousin came by to pick me up and he wouldn't say why.
And even though i knew she was very sick i never suspected that's why he came to get me.
Naive, but death was just never natural for me. Still isn't.
I was devastated, like everyone else, but then some neighbors of my aunt and uncle took me to their house and showed me their angora rabbits.

My mom always say i look like her.

This next one is of my brother and my dad.

My parents built a lot of things out of old beer crates.

Here's another one of those inventions.

This tree outside my grandfathers apartment window was cut down just a few weeks ago.
He said he remembered them being planted in the 30's, so he was sad to see it go.
I don't know if the year is correct, but he's probably not too far off.

This is from Bisserup.
It looked so different back then.
Don't you just love the colours of old photos?
(With the exception of you Matthias, should you be reading this. Please don't kill yourself).

That's my brother, Tobias.
Looks like he's taking a poop in our kitchen.
Always a gentleman, that one.

This is (from left to right) my cousin Nikolaj, my grandmother Else, my brother, and my cousin Rasmus.

Rasmus and Tobias

Looks like this is also my grandmother, wife of my only surviving grandparent.
The fabric of her dress has also been used for pillows, that are now in my room in Bisserup.
I have the bracelet she's wearing.

She looks like such a badass, smoking that cigar.

It feels weird, posting these.
Like i'm not supposed to.
I just my wanna make sure they're out there, and they won't become just another nameless pile of photos at a flea market.
We'll all be that someday i guess, but i want them to be...
I don't know.

More pictures later.

Vinyl is king

What else to do on a wet sunday?
Light candles and listen to old records of course.

Our record player has been disconnected for a while, and we haven't really had the time to untangle all the wires that live behind the stereo and reconnect it.
Until today.

So now we are listening to one of my all time favorite records.
Well, i am, i'm pretty sure Allan and Lucifer are sleeping.
Anyway, it's all scratched up, since it was second hand when i bought it, but that only adds to it's charm if you ask me.

The album is byMahalia Jackson, the queen of gospel.
Now i normally hate gospel, or what is considered gospel these days, and god knows (ha!) that i'm no fan of religion either, but i love her.

I don't even know if it's possible to find this anywhere (on vinyl, that is) but if you're ever at a fleamarket and spot this, you should buy it.

It's sunday and it's raining

If the weather where you are is anywhere near as depressing as it is in Denmark today, i have just the thing for you:
Cute Overload.

There you'll find pictures like this:

And this:

And who can be in a bad mood looking at this little guy:

So, that's what i'm gonna do today, look at cute blogs. And drink coffee. And possibly paint.

I think...

I wanna get my back done when we return from Japan.
I don't know how that's gonna work, i am such a friggin wuss.
And Allan will probably kill/divorce me before it's done.
But i want it!

Also, don't know what to get.
That could be a problem too.

But mainly the part where i can't stand pain.

Fancy photos

Ok, so in this post i promised to put up more photos of me from the day me and Allan did reference shots.
As it turns out, my husband just did three posts with pictures from that day, so i think we're good.
If you wanna see more B & W pictures of me rolling around on the floor like an idiot, The Blog of Uncle is the place to go.
For me, right now the place to go is my bed.

Last night in Yvoire

On our last night in France i decided to go for an evening stroll by myself.
I went down to the old harbor and i just couldn't have had better timing.
This old couple were feeding the birds leftover fish, buckets of it, and every gull, duck and swan in the village were invited.

I was just standing there, in the middle of this inferno of wings and high pitched shrieks and it was amazing.
I took pictures of course, but it was just so hard to capture what was going on in the dark.
In the pictures it looks like there's a couple of birds, but there were hundreds or more.
I counted seven Grey Herons, one of my favorite birds.
They were the least aggressive of the bunch, just kind of hanging out in the background.

The animals in France are friendly

This little guy looks angry, but in reality he just tried to tell me, that he'd been posing long enough and now it was time to scratch his ears
I spent waaaay too much time talking to these guys

Ah, les baguettes, le fromage...

Old french dudes taking a stroll

"So i says to Jean-Paul, i says to him..."

More Yvoire goodness to come soon...

Countdown to Japan

Yes, i know i just stepped off the plane from France a few hours ago, and i am happy to be home with my baby and my dog, but...
I am also damn excited about going back to Japan.

A couple of things today reminded me how much i've missed my other home.

First, i was at the local Irma shopping for groceries when i overheard a shop clerk go "i'm sorry, i don't understand what you want".
I went over to see what was going on and it turned out to be little japanese ladies.
Now i don't speak japanese, but i do speak japanenglish, almost fluently.
So i managed to translate for them, and it made them happy, which made me really happy.

Second, i was at Irma shopping for dinner.
I made one of my danish/japanese meals. I've missed healthy food while in France, those people can't even make a salad or a plate of vegetables.
Anyway, we had tuna, tomato bites (looks like a veggie meatball), carrot and tofu salad, rice and seasoned korean nori.

Oh, and seeing Horitoshi (the newest addition to the crew at Inkrat) at the convention in Evian and hearing him talk about life at the shop, just made me miss Rei, Hata and Izumi so much.

It is good to be home right now.
Tomorrow i'll post pictures from beautiful Yvoire. Promise.

Great geek news

Alyson Hannigan and Alexis Denisof (also known as Willow and Wesley from the Buffy/Angel-verse) are having a baby.
Congratulations to two of my favorite people-i-will-never-meet!

We're going home tomorrow.

Now i just wanna lie down and digest my food.

Happy birthday Nick!

Yes you are!

Fun with John McCain

Stop it John, you're embarrassing yourself.
He's such an old perv.

Yup, we got bored. More stupidity to come...
